# Quiz Prompt for Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM)

By **Juli** Updated Oct 26, 2026

This quiz prompt for Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) writes a practice test in the chat on your terms: how many questions, which types, how hard, wrong options that are actually tempting, and the answer key kept out of sight until the end. Tick the sources the test should cover, paste the prompt and replace \[TOPIC\]. When you have answered, the follow-up below has it mark your work.

## The quiz prompt

```
Write a practice quiz on [TOPIC] from the selected sources only.
- 15 questions: 8 multiple choice with 4 options, 4 true or false, 3 short answer.
- Difficulty: 5 recall, 6 understanding, 4 applying an idea to a new case.
- Make the wrong options plausible: use misconceptions the sources mention or near-miss facts, never joke answers.
- Number the questions and do not show any answers under them.
After the last question, add an "Answer key" section with the correct answer, a one-sentence explanation and the source each answer comes from.
```

## When to use it

Use it after your first pass through the material and again a few days later. Send “Write 15 new questions on the same topic” in the same chat and you have a fresh test without repeating yourself. Studio can make quizzes too; the chat version is for when you want to choose the mix, match the format of your real exam or keep everything in one conversation you can come back to.

## What it returns

A numbered test with the three question types in order, and an answer key below the last question with a short explanation and a citation per answer. Scroll only as far as the questions, write your answers down, then send the grading follow-up. The citations in the key are the point: when you get one wrong, open the passage it cites and reread that, not the whole chapter.

```
Here are my answers: [1-B, 2-True, 3-...]. Mark each one right or wrong, explain every mistake using the sources, then write 5 new questions on the topics I got wrong.
```

That loop of quiz, grade and re-quiz is worth having one click away all term.

## Variations

**One question at a time.** Closer to being tested by a tutor.

```
Quiz me on [TOPIC] from the selected sources, one question at a time. Wait for my answer before you continue. After each answer, tell me if I am right, explain briefly with a citation, then ask the next question. Get harder when I am right and easier when I am wrong. Stop after 10 questions and give me my score.
```

**Match the real exam.** Add a past paper or the exam guidelines as a source first.

```
Using the past paper or exam guidelines among the selected sources as the format, and the other sources as content, write a new practice exam on [TOPIC] with the same question types, number of questions and mark scheme. Put the mark scheme at the end.
```

**Application only.** When you already know the definitions.

```
Write 8 scenario questions on [TOPIC] that make me apply ideas from the selected sources to situations the sources do not describe. For each, give the answer and the source idea it tests at the end.
```
