# Prompts for Nursing Students in Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM)

By **Juli** Updated Oct 26, 2026

These prompts for nursing students turn the lecture notes and readings in Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) into NCLEX-style practice: clinical scenarios, “what should the nurse do first” questions, select-all-that-apply items and a rationale for every option. Add one unit’s materials to a notebook, tick them, paste the main prompt and replace \[TOPIC\]. Below it are prompts for drug cards and care-plan practice.

## The NCLEX-style practice question prompt

```
Act as a nursing instructor. Using only the selected lecture notes and readings, write 10 NCLEX-style practice questions on [TOPIC].
- Build each question on a short clinical scenario: a patient, a setting and a finding.
- Ask what the nurse should do first, what needs follow-up, what to report, or what to teach the patient.
- 7 single-answer multiple choice questions with 4 options, and 3 select-all-that-apply questions with 5 or 6 options.
- Number the questions and keep all answers out of the question section.
Then add a "Rationales" section. For each question: the correct answer, why it is right, why each wrong option is wrong, and the source it comes from. If my sources do not support a question, leave it out.
```

## When to use it

Use it after each unit, while the material is fresh, and again before exams. Because the questions come from your own course materials, they follow what your instructors teach, which matters when a textbook and a lecture word a priority differently. It is a study aid, not clinical guidance: when a rationale surprises you, check it against your course materials or ask your instructor.

## What it returns

Ten numbered scenarios, then a rationale section with every option explained and a citation to the lecture or reading behind it. The “why each wrong option is wrong” part is where most of the learning happens, so read it even for questions you got right. Questions your sources cannot support are dropped rather than invented, so a thin unit can come back with fewer than ten.

A unit a week means this prompt gets used all semester, so keep it one click from the chat.

Kortex adds a Prompts button to Gemini Notebook: save this prompt and the drug-card prompt once, then insert them into each unit's notebook. The free plan keeps 10 prompts; Pro has no limit. Free on Chrome.

## More prompts for nursing students

**Drug cards.** For pharmacology, from your own drug notes.

```
From the selected sources only, make a drug card for each medication covered in [UNIT]. For each: drug class, what it does, main uses, key side effects, nursing considerations, and patient teaching points. Present one table per drug class, cite the source for each drug, and write "not in sources" for anything missing.
```

**Care-plan practice.** For turning a case into a plan.

```
Using the selected sources, give me a practice case of a patient with [CONDITION]. Then ask me to write the priority problems, goals, interventions and how I would evaluate them. Wait for my answer, then compare it with what the sources say and tell me what I missed.
```

**Explain a hard concept.** For the topic that will not stick.

```
Explain [CONCEPT, e.g. fluid and electrolyte balance] as a clinical instructor would to a first-year nursing student, using only the selected sources. Start with the big picture, then the details, then one patient example, then the 3 things most likely to be tested.
```
