# Market Research Prompt for Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM)

By **Juli** Updated Oct 26, 2026

This market research prompt for Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) works as a question generator grounded in what you already have. Add your reports, customer reviews, competitor pages and interview notes to a notebook, tick them, paste the prompt and describe the decision you face. It returns the core research questions, what your sources already answer, the gaps, and ready-to-use interview and survey questions.

## The market research prompt (question generator)

```
I'm researching [MARKET OR PRODUCT] to decide [DECISION, e.g. whether to launch in a new region].
Using the selected sources (reports, reviews, competitor pages, interview notes), generate the questions my research should answer.
1. 5 core research questions the decision depends on. For each: why it matters and what the sources already say, with citations.
2. Gaps: what the sources cannot answer yet.
3. 10 customer interview questions: open-ended, about past behavior, not leading, no yes-or-no questions. Group them by stage: problem, current solution, buying, switching.
4. 8 survey questions with answer options, including at least 2 that size the problem (how often, how much spent, how much time lost).
5. 5 questions to answer through competitor research, each with the kind of source to check.
Tag every question with the core research question it serves.
```

## When to use it

Use it at the start of a research project, after a first sweep of desk research and before you book interviews or write a survey. Describing the decision is what keeps the questions useful: “whether to launch in Germany next year” gives sharper questions than “the German market”. Run it again after the interviews, with the notes added as sources, to see which gaps are closed.

## What it returns

A research plan in five parts. The core questions come with what your sources already say about each, cited, so you can see at a glance where you have evidence and where you are guessing. The interview questions are open and about past behavior (“Tell me about the last time you…”), which keeps answers concrete. The survey questions come with answer options, ready to paste into a form tool after a quick edit.

Market research rarely happens once. Keep the prompt for the next market, product or segment.

## Variations

**Competitor comparison.** Add competitor pages, pricing pages and reviews first.

```
Compare the competitors in the selected sources in a table with the columns: Competitor | Target customer | Main promise | Pricing | Strengths | Weaknesses customers mention. Then list 3 gaps none of them fill. Cite every cell.
```

**Review mining.** For app store, marketplace or survey comments.

```
From the selected customer reviews, group what people say into themes: pains, praise, missing features and reasons for switching. For each theme give how many reviews mention it, 2 short quotes word for word, and what it suggests for [PRODUCT].
```

**Persona sketch.** After interviews are in.

```
From the selected interview notes, describe 2 or 3 customer types that come up repeatedly: their goal, their current workaround, what triggers a purchase and their main objection. Quote the interviews for each point and say how many interviews support each type.
```
